Health and Safety Guidelines

Our staff has been hard at work since March 2020 adapting to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve had a strong mission-journey with 5 cultural tours, @homeArts creation, and SLFS@home, all the while working to make the theatre safe for the SLFS community. We ask that our patrons and staff adhere to the following guidelines and be aware of the steps we are taking to ensure everyone’s health and safety.

SLFS Terms and Conditions of Event Participation

SLFS will adhere to the guidelines and standards set by World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), local and state health authorities, and the voluntary #CinemaSafe (Cinemasafe.org) guidelines developed by the National Association of Theatre Owners.

When Attending In Person

SLFS does not currently request proof of vaccination unless attending on our special CinemaSafe+ day.

While masks are appreciated, they are not required.

Salt Lake Film Society has upgraded its HVAC with high MERV-rated, and increased air outflow air.

Going to the movies in-person at SLFS is easy; you will simply need to pre purchase your tickets at SLFS.org, or directly from our ticketing portal SLFStix.org.

If attending on Mondays:

To allow access to those in our community who are at higher risk for Covid, SLFS has set Mondays aside as a CinemaSafe+ day. If attending on Mondays, please plan to show one of the following items to gain entry to the theatre – along with your pre-purchased ticket from SLFS.org or SLFStix.org:

  • Physical vaccination card
  • Photo of vaccination card, on phone or printed (photo must be legible)
  • Digital vaccination record
  • Negative COVID-19 test result proof (within prior 48 hours)
  • You may also be required to show a photo I.D.

On this day, children under 12 who cannot yet be vaccinated may attend provided they are accompanied by a fully-vaccinated adult, and they wear a mask.

Thank you for helping our nonprofit and small team of staff and volunteers thrive during this challenging, ever-changing COVID landscape.

*Full vaccination is defined as two weeks after the final dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Salt Lake Film Society recognizes exceptions based on Title 1 of the ADA and Title VII religious if notified at time of entry.

How to purchase a ticket

To receive a ticket to a screening at Salt Lake Film Society (“SLFS”) Broadway Centre Cinemas, Tower Theatre, or Studio Backlot Motor Cinema, please visit our website at www.slfs.org or our ticketing portal www.SLFStix.org, and follow all ticketing prompts to the screening event of your choice.

At this time all tickets should be purchased via cellphone or online prior to arrival. For our guests who arrive without a ticket, a kiosk will be available to purchase an online ticket, or you may use any smart phone by going to SLFStix.org.

SLFS prefers patrons pay with credit card if purchasing concessions or tickets on site to reduce touchpoints and protect our staff further. Patrons who wish to pay with cash will need to do so at our concessions counter.

Staff Protocols

SLFS staff are 100% vaccinated.

SLFS on-site volunteers are 100% vaccinated.

All SLFS staff are provided with and wear face masks that cover the mouth and nose.

Staff have access to cleaning stations throughout the venue.

Sanitizer stations have been installed in staff areas.

All staff have been trained to adhere to strict cleaning protocols to keep high-touch surfaces cleaned on a regular basis.

All staff have been instructed to not come to work if showing any symptoms of Covid-19.  Staff members will not return to work until they have obtained a negative Covid-19 test.

Visitor Protocols

At SLFS we offer general admission seating for all shows. Please choose a seat that is socially distanced from other parties

We also ask that all our patrons social distance while in restrooms, concessions lines and other areas of our venues.  Patrons should follow social-distance signage when in line.

Plan to bring a credit card if you have one. We prefer credit card payments for Concessions or other items in-house to reduce transmission. Cash transactions can be handled at Concessions if need.

Hand sanitizer stations have been installed throughout the building.

Concessions may be purchased online during the point-of-sale of your ticket purchase.  Choose this option to reduce touch points at the theater.

Jani-King, a local janitorial company, has been contracted by SLFS to complete a deep clean of all theaters and restrooms nightly.

High-touch surfaces throughout the venue will be cleaned on a regular basis during regular operations.

If circumstances change from time of purchase to your visit, and you no longer wish to attend an in-person event, please email info@saltlakefilmsociety.org or a full refund of any purchase.

Refund Policy

Requests for refunds will not be honored after a film is on screen for 10 minutes.

Late Entry Policy

SLFS takes pride in preserving the cinematic experience.  Please do not arrive late to a film.  Arriving late disrupts the film experience for fellow patrons.

Films start on time at SLFS, and begin with a short SLFS pre-show, which includes movie trailers and SLFS program information.

If a special guest is in attendance, the event will start on time. For these specialty screenings, SLFS will not allow late admission.

Content Advisories/Trigger Warnings

SLFS does not provide advisories about subject matter or potential triggering content.

The films and film-artists that SLFS programs for the community have their own unique perspectives, voices, and ideas. SLFS does not censor the expression of ideas, rather, we present  works of film artists to our audiences as-is.

We trust SLFS audience’s to self-select their choice of film and ask that they do their own research on films before attending if there is a concern about the film content. SLFS does not guarantee that any given film will not contain challenging or triggering content to any specific individual.

Beyond the synopses and trailers featured on our website, other sources of information about content and age-appropriateness for specific films can be found on Common Sense Media IMDb  and DoesTheDogDie.com  as well as thorough general internet searches.

SLFS programs are based on 4 core values:

  • Artistic Merit
  • Critical Merit
  • Festival & Awards History
  • Community-centric

SLFS Code of Conduct

SLFS strives to provide a welcoming space for every individual in our community. We uphold a mutual respect for the expression of a multiplicity of ideas and perspectives. We ask that our patrons in turn hold themselves to a high standard of conduct including demonstrating kindness, respect for each other and striving to engage in non-disruptive debate and discussion before or after the film is being shown .

While disagreement, differing viewpoints, and robust debate are part of what makes the film-going experience at SLFS so valuable, behavior considered inappropriate, in any way violent, abusive, or threatening will not be tolerated and appropriate action will be taken if needed.

SLFS is a strong ally with many minority communities. We hold our staff and board accountable for continually evolving in the work of anti-racism. We strive to make our venues a welcoming and safe harbor for communities in pain due to systemic racism, bigotry, hatred, or discrimination.

Our core values at SLFS are:

  • Acting with Professionalism
  • Creating connections
  • Being welcoming
  • Striving to evolve
  • Demonstrating Innovation
  • Being Passionate
  • Being Life-balanced

Patron Code of Conduct

SLFS expects that those who share our spaces will demonstrate:

  • Respect and decency to others at all times. SLFS recognizes and celebrates the uniqueness of individuals of all races, ethnicities, gender identities/expressions, differently abled or physically unique bodies, disabilities, sexual orientations, religions, nationalities, languages, economic statuses, and immigration statuses.
  • Respect for the safety and humanity of others. Under no circumstances are unwelcome physical attentions, advances, sexual harassment or stalking permitted on the premises.
  • Respect for the physical and personal space of others. In these times especially, we expect our community to respect other people’s comfort level when it comes to physical space needs. Noticing when people are attempting to stay six-feet apart, are wearing masks, or other cues can help maintain an enjoyable experience for all.
  • Respect for others in the use of speech and language. SLFS reserves the right to remove patrons who exhibit disruptive behavior. In our physical venues and online spaces, SLFS will not engage with, and may block or ban, those who promote speech that includes hate, offensive language, or is abusive (trolling).
  • Respect for all anti-piracy measures to protect the film industry. Piracy threatens the wellness of the art form and the livelihood of film artists. SLFS encourages patrons to refrain from visiting websites that frequently pirate or make available pirated copies of the work of film artists.
  • Respect for the physical space. SLFS works hard to keep the Broadway and Tower spaces clean, welcoming. safe and even engaging. Please respect this work and our spaces.  Notify a manager on duty if you see something in the venue that needs to be cleaned, improved, or reported as damaged.

If you experience or witness any inappropriate conduct while in our physical venues, please report the incident to a manager on duty. If you see inappropriate conduct online, please email us at info@saltlakefilmsociety.org
