Filméxico kicks off in November with an exciting lineup that highlights both acclaimed filmmakers and emerging voices from contemporary Mexican cinema. We will be returning to in person screenings at the Broadway starting November 10 – November 17.
Filméxico 2022 lineup will feature prominent works by indigenous filmmakers, as well as seasoned, new and local talent. We will also present a series of panel discussions with Mexican filmmakers, Utah community leaders and cultural binational specialists and allies.
Join us for our opening night live Q&A with director Melissa Elizondo Moreno, following a screening of The Sower (El Sembrador) on Thursday November 10. The film begins at 7:00 pm with the live Q&A afterward.
We will also have a live Q&A following Mending The Heart (Remover El Corazon) on Friday November 11.
GUEST FILMMAKER: Melissa Elizondo Moreno
Melissa Elizondo Moreno graduated from the National School of Cinematographic Arts at UNAM. Her work is focused on the themes of resilience, childhood and the gender perspective.
Her debut feature “The Sower” was awarded The Warrior of the Documentary Press Award, The Made by a Woman Award and the Audience Award for Documentary Feature Film at the Morelia International Film Festival.
The Sower also won awards at festivals in France, Chile and Bolivia. Her short films “Túmin: Solidarity Economy” and “The Threads That Weave Us” have been presented at various film festivals and international exhibitions.

Mending the Heart/Remover el Corazón

In this conversation we learn the challenges of documenting the process of one of Mexico’s most vulnerable communities as they take back their space and power through art, collectivity and the rebellious, inspiring resistance act of putting children’s standing point at the front and center.
The Sower/El Sembrador
